Jenn: Hailey Ramseyer, can you tell everyone where you got your Master’s Degree from and what it is in:
Hailey Ramseyer: I received my Master’s in Social work from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. My degree is actually Social Work with a focus on mental health.
Jenn: What is your license?
Hailey Ramseyer: Currently I’m considered a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) so I’m an intern. I’m waiting on my license to come through from the State of Illinois. Once it comes in I will be a Licensed Social Worker.
Jenn: Can you tell us why you chose to work at The Mental Wellness Center, Inc?
Hailey Ramseyer: I had heard a lot of great things about The Mental Wellness Center. It is in my hometown and I was really looking forward to trying out private practice. TMWC has great learning and professional development opportunities as well!
Jenn: Hailey Ramseyer, what excites you about being at The Mental Wellness Center, Inc?
Hailey Ramseyer: Being at The Mental Wellness Center, Inc is exciting because I have a feeling that my growth will be supported by all the clinicians here.
Jenn: Do you have any idea how much joy that brings to my heart? The Mental Wellness Center was created to develop a supportive environment. Can you tell me what made you want to become a therapist?
Hailey Ramseyer: I have wanted to be a therapist since I was a little girl. I have always enjoyed talking about feelings and helping people feel okay when things are going rough. I am passionate about mental health and letting people know that they are not alone struggling with mental health.
Jenn: Who are the people that you thrive on seeing?
Hailey Ramseyer: I thrive on seeing people up to age 25 who are in a really tough situation and they are doing what they can to make it better. There is something so strong about seeking help when things are difficult. Overall, helping people work through trauma and their big emotions is what helps me.
Jenn: What are the issues you LOVE working with?
Hailey Ramseyer: TRAUMA. I love talking about and working through trauma.
Jenn: Hailey I hope you know how much trauma speaks to my heart. What sets you apart from every other therapist in the world?
Hailey Ramseyer: What sets me apart from every other therapist in the world is that I am going to put your comfort first. I want clients to feel comfortable with me so that when we get to the hard and uncomfortable conversations, the client still feels safe and knows they have the room to grow with me. What sets me apart is that I am going to do whatever it takes to help clients be able to be themselves and thrive through therapy.
Jenn: What is it about working with people that you love?
Hailey Ramseyer: Everyone has a story. It can be told through conversations or body language, but no one has the exact same experience. You can learn so much from people.
Jenn: I love that Hailey! Would you be willing to tell us what modalities you typically use with the clients you work with?
Hailey Ramseyer: I mostly use CBT, DBT, Mindfulness
Jenn: How do you best connect with your clients Hailey?
Hailey Ramseyer: I try to find something we have in common. Rapport building is so important and I will be sure to spend time getting to know the person’s interests so that they feel valued.
Jenn: What are your favorite self-care techniques? How do you best decompress?
Hailey Ramseyer: My favorite self-care techniques are being outside, absolutely JAMMING to some music and spending time with my loved ones (especially my cat Oreo).
Jenn: Hailey Ramseyer what do you want everyone to know?
Hailey Ramseyer: Therapy is for everyone! No matter if you think your challenges are as difficult as someone else’s or you feel that your trauma isn’t as big, going to therapy is so valid. There is strength in wanting to better yourself and perhaps better understand yourself as a whole.
