Meet Graceanne Dodd, MSW Intern

I can’t deny that I really valued being able to engage in this interview with Graceanne Dodd, MSW intern. And it’s not just because she is attending my alma mater! She’s a really genuine and sincere person. Give this blog a read through and consider scheduling an appointment with her!

Jenn Bovee: Graceanne, where did you get your Master’s degree from and what is it in?

Graceanne Dodd: I am obtaining my Master’s degree through St. Ambrose University. I am obtaining a Master’s in Social work.

Jenn Bovee: Graceanne,  I have such amazing memories of my Master’s program at St. Ambrose! Can you tell us why you chose The Mental Wellness Center?

Graceanne Dodd: After interviewing with The Mental Wellness Center and learning about their missions and goals, I knew it would be a great fit for me to grow and develop my skill set. My goals align with TMWC and I am eager to start supporting clients in my role at The Mental Wellness Center. 

Jenn Bovee: Graceanne I love that answer! Can you tell us what excites you about wanting to work at The Mental Wellness Center?

Graceanne Dodd: TMWC offers a variety of opportunities to support and work with clients. I am excited to deepen my knowledge of social work and counseling and learn how I can help clients and the mental wellness they are seeking.

Jenn Bovee: Graceanne, what made you want to become a therapist?

Graceanne Dodd: I believe there are so many positives to therapy that everyone can benefit from. I wanted to become a therapist to help people realize and utilize their strengths and watch them transform their lives and wellness.

Jenn Bovee: Who are the people you love working with?

Graceanne Dodd: I really love working with adolescents and young adults. 

Jenn Bovee: What are the issues that you just LOVE working with?

Graceanne Dodd: I enjoy working with clients as they experience the transformative years of young adulthood and helping people find their confidence and identity.
Jenn Bovee: What sets you apart from every other therapist in the world?

Graceanne Dodd: I am very passionate about helping others and an extremely empathetic person. I find a lot of joy in helping others which helps me thrive in this profession.

Jenn Bovee: What is it about working with people that you love?

Graceanne Dodd: I love seeing the change in people’s lives and the realization that they have achieved something they never felt was possible.

Jenn Bovee: Graceanne that response is so near and dear to my heart! Can you tell us how you best connect with your clients: 

Graceanne Dodd: I best connect with my clients by building a strong professional relationship that is based in trust and safety. Creating a welcoming environment allows me to better connect with my clients. I want to create a safe space for them.

Jenn Bovee: Tell us your favorite self-care techniques. How do you decompress?

Graceanne Dodd: I try to be very intentional about taking time for myself. I love doing this by attending yoga classes, reading, running, and being outside. These are all tools that help me to take care of myself!

Jenn Bovee: Graceanne is there anything else people reading this should know?

Graceanne Dodd: I am very excited to connect with new clients and start this journey with TMWC!
