Introduction to Sarah Hickman, MSW Intern
I’m so excited to share this interview with each of you. Today, we are going to be exploring my interview with Sarah Hickman, MSW Intern. I just know you are going to be as fond of her as I am.
Jenn Bovee: Sarah will you tell us about your Master’s in Social Work Degree?
Sarah Hickman: I will be receiving my Master’s in Social Work Degree from Illinois State University in May of 2024.
Jenn Bovee: Why did you choose to work at the Mental Wellness Center?
Sara Hickman: I loved the various modalities that are used and the wide range of services, experiences, and knowledge that each clinician has.
Jenn Bovee: Sarah, as the owner of The Mental Wellness Center I am so very proud of all of our clinicians. And I’m honored that each and everyone of you have chosen to be here. What is your favorite thing about The Mental Wellness Center?
Sarah Hickman: My favorite thing is the support I feel from my colleagues and supervisors to best serve my clients.
Jenn Bovee: What made you want to become a therapist?
Sarah Hickman: I facilitated online support groups, and being that support fulfilled me and gave me a drive to want to do more.
Jenn Bovee: Who are the people that you thrive on seeing?
Sarah Hickman: I love working with high school and college students as well as parents with young to school aged children.
Jenn Bovee: Sarah, will you tell us what are the issues that you just LOVE working with?
Sarah Hickman: I really enjoy working with anxiety and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Jenn Bovee: What sets you apart from every other therapist in the world?
Sarah Hickman: I have a passion and drive to meet clients where they are and to help the client reach their goals.
Jenn Bovee: Sarah, I think you know this but that desire to meet clients where they are is so important to me. What is it about working with people that you love?
Sarah Hickman: I love building connections and being a safe space for others, while also challenging them to reach their full potential.
Jenn Bovee: What modalities do you typically use when working with clients?
Sarah Hickman: Strength-based approaches and CBT are my typical go to’s.
Jenn Bovee: How do you best connect with your clients?
Sarah Hickman: I typically use empathy, active listening, and validation.
Jenn Bovee: I think empathy should be a requirement for all therapists, Sarah! What is your favorite self-care technique?
Sarah Hickman: Exercise, separating myself from an environment that is causing stress and then either reading or listening to music, going outside and laying in a lawn chair in my yard, using my weighted items.
Jenn Bovee: Is there anything else you would like people reading this to know?
Sarah Hickman: I have current availability to take on new clients. I look forward to meeting you where you are and building a therapeutic relationship.
